Trust helps war veteran remain in Tywyn
A donation from the Peter Saunders Trust has enabled a disabled war veteran to remain in Tywyn, his home town for more than 40 years.
The Trust has paid for the conversion of a bathroom at the local Abbeyfield House, which has enabled the society to offer a room to 85 year old Ken Stephens who lost both his legs in 2000. After the death of his wife last year, Ken realised it would be difficult to remain in his own home without assistance. Abbeyfield provided the ideal solution, offering him a degree of independence with support where required. However, his wheelchair status meant that the bathing facilities at the house were unsuitable, despite the fact that a room was available.
The Peter Saunders Trust stepped in and provided the necessary funds to convert the en-suite bathroom, and Ken has been able to move into his new home.
Stella Edridge, the Secretary of the Abbeyfield, paid tribute to the Peter Saunders Trust: “This generous donation has made such a difference to Ken, but has also added an important additional facility for the house. We are enormously grateful for the Trust's support.”
The Trust's donation came after Abbeyfield had approached other sources for funding but was turned down because its particular requirement did not meet stringent funding criteria. The Peter Saunders Trust was able to take a more flexible approach.
