Local philanthropy provides children with exciting new play equipment!
Funds provided by a Tywyn based charity have helped provide exciting new outdoor play equipment for the local Welsh medium nursery, Cylch Meithrin. Thanks to a generous donation from the Peter Saunders Trust, new equipment imported from Sweden has been installed at the playgroup.
Now, children at the Cylch Meithrin Tywyn are able to play safely and have fun with a new Early Childhood Play centre. The Trust donated £3,250 for the facilities and the project also attracted additional funds from the ‘All Wales’ Lottery grant.
The Peter Saunders Trust was founded by local entrepreneur and philanthropist Peter Saunders, founder of Halo Foods at Tywyn. Since the sale of the business, Peter's aim has been to create a charity personally funded by his family and dedicated to benefiting his local community and the communities in which his former staff live.
Commenting, Peter said, “The aim of the Trust is to make a real difference to local people in a range of different ways. This nursery project really did capture the Trustees' imagination. What better way to support our community than to add to the fun and health of young children, as well as supporting the Welsh language.”
Established in 1986, Cylch Meithrin Tywyn is the only Welsh-medium nursery in the area. Its aim is to provide early years care and education of the highest quality for children from the ages of 2-4 years. The playgroup can care for up to 24 children in any one session and there are 4 members of staff working on a full time basis.
Lyndsey Owen, on behalf of The Cylch Meithrin Tywyn said, “I would like to thank The Peter Saunders Trust for awarding us the grant. It has really made an invaluable difference to the children as, together with the lottery group's award, we have been able to provide the children with a safe and fun outdoor area that they will have access to on a daily basis. Being active is very important and now we have the opportunity to be able to provide the children with outdoor activities. Diolch yn fawr to Peter from all the children, parents and staff at the Tywyn Cylch Meithrin.”
